It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of the 3rd quarter. Parents should have received progress reports for their child this week. If not, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Students will be taking the last round of MAPS (Measures of Academic Progress) testing so teachers can identify areas that students need additional instruction on before the end of the year. Teachers have been working diligently to implement the Balanced Literacy strategies and Math Investigations Curriculum which are aligned to the Common Core standards in Math and Literacy. Below is a proposed calendar for the End of Grade Testing. Student results will be received before school is dismissed in the summer. Retesting will be only for those students who score a level one or two on the 3rd grade Reading EOG.

The proposed schedule for End of Grade testing is:

  • Reading – Wednesday, May 28
  • Math – Thursday, May 29
  • 5th Grade Science – Friday, May 30
  • Make-ups – Friday, May 30 – Friday, June 6
  • 3rd grade Retests in Reading (if needed) – Week of June 2

Elizabeth Lane Elementary School is in need of test proctors. If you are willing to help during the End of Grade Testing, please contact Cathy in the front office with your name, phone number, and days of availability.

With the change in the testing calendar, ELE has had to make some date changes for the end of year activities (Class Parties and Field Days). The dates for these events are:

  • Kindergarten Field Day – Monday, May 19 (AM)
  • 1st Grade Field Day – Monday, May 19 (PM)
  • 2nd Grade Field Day – Tuesday, May 20
  • 3rd Grade Field Day – Wednesday, May 21
  • 4th Grade Field Day – Thursday, May 22 (Colonel Francis Beatty Park
  • 5th Grade Field Day – Friday, May 23 (Colonel Francis Beatty Park)
  • K-1 Class Parties – Thursday, June 5
  • 2-3 Class Parties – Friday, June 6
  • 4-5 Class Parties – Monday, June 9
  • 5th grade Recognition Ceremony – Tuesday, June 10 at PHS

As a reminder, Daylight Savings is this weekend. Please remember to spring forward and set your clock ahead one hour early Sunday morning. As the end of year approaches, please continue to stress with your child about making good decisions. You can assist in a variety of ways including: checking the agenda daily, reviewing homework, listening to your child read, communicating with teachers, and reinforcing with your child the need to stay focused in order to meet teacher expectations with regards to academics and behavior. By working together, ELE Hawks will SOAR to success!!!

Happy Holidays to all the students and their families at Elizabeth Lane Elementary School. This is the time of year in which we reflect upon all we are thankful for. ELE is so fortunate to have wonderful students, a fantastic staff of dedicated educators, parents that are involved, and a PTSA that always puts kids and their educational needs first. Each day, I am thankful to be the principal at this amazing school!

Of course we all look forward to this very welcome time at the close of the calendar year when we can pause for a few days – to reflect on the year that has almost passed, to look forward to the future and, above all, to spend valuable time with our families and friends. Everyone at ELE works hard and we must also strive to achieve balance with our lives outside of the school community. I urge all of you to make the most of this opportunity, to share more time than you usually may have with your dear ones, and to make time for yourself and the special things you love to do.

At this special time of year, I take this moment to say thank you, to each and every one of you who have contributed by volunteering in our school, donating to the All For One Fund, and working with your children and the teachers. Your work and your dedication to our school are deeply appreciated.

I wish you and those you love a safe, healthy and joyous holiday season.

It is hard to believe that we have already completed the 1st quarter of the school year. Report cards for all grades will be distributed on Friday, November 15. Thank you to all parents who participated in Parent Conferences on November 1. If you were not able to attend on this date, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher to set up a time to meet.

THANK YOU to all of our families who have contributed to the All For One campaign. Your support is greatly appreciated! All of the funds collected will be utilized to further increase classroom technology and resources in order to enhance your child’s education. Additionally, it will be utilized to increase the number of books in the classroom libraries in order to support Readers Workshop implementation. I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the PTA Board members who have devoted many hours to facilitate this fundraising campaign. Parental involvement and support is critical for student success in school.

As the holiday season approaches, please help to ensure your child attends school and remains focused on their class work. Teachers are working together to develop engaging lessons to further challenge your child. Please encourage your child to ensure that all assignments have been given to teachers and graded accordingly. If you have any questions about your child’s classes or progress, please contact your child’s teacher. By working together, we can ensure that Hawks SOAR to success at ELE.
